Sparrows Group and MRDS secure major joint drilling equipment contracts in Middle East

Sparrows Group and MRDS have secured two joint drilling equipment contracts in the Middle East with an international drilling contractor and an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in the region.

The first scope of work for an OEM covers the inspection and overhaul of nine catwalks, utility cranes and ancillary equipment. Preparation for the work is underway and the first catwalk has been received at Sparrows’ Abu Dhabi workshop for strip-down and inspection.

After inspection all equipment will be repaired and upgraded where necessary, ensuring its integrity and safety, and delivered back to our client fully refurbished.

The most recently awarded contract for an international drilling contractor will see a topdrive and pipehandler be sent to Sparrows’ workshop for repair and recertification.

Stewart Mitchell, chief executive officer of Sparrows, said: “These recent contract awards in this area demonstrates the confidence that the drilling market has in our combined capabilities.

“MRDS has built up a reputation for excellence in drilling equipment services and we’re looking forward to working with them. Sparrows has already been delivering drilling equipment services in Singapore and further expanding our service capability into the Middle East supports our long-term plans for growth of this service line.

Mark Robertson, MRDS’ managing director added: “By utilising Sparrows’ existing facilities in the Middle East our clients can be assured that they will receive local technical support at the high-quality standard they expect. We’re delighted to have already been selected by two clients to undertake these large and critical scopes.”
