Team Sparrows win league in Corporate Decathlon Highland Games

Sparrows employees always like to strive for the most competitive edge and, a fun filled, sunny Saturday in June gave an opportunity for ‘Team Sparrows’ to demonstrate exactly that.

Competing in the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon’s Highland Games, Sparrows’ 16 team members battled against 12 other companies, with particularly tough competition from Halliburton and GE Oil & Gas, to eventually come out victorious in League 1.

The event attended by over 3,000 people, provided a fantastic day out for all the family with additional side-line entertainment and catering.

Michelle Wainwright, Sparrows Corporate Communications Manager and Decathlon Team Captain said: “I am so delighted for the whole team; the camaraderie amongst all 16 members was great and everyone gave 100% to each of the challenges. There was such excitement in the days before the event that I knew we would do well but winning our League is the best result of all.”

Colin McIntyre, Sparrows Supply Chain Manager and Decathlon Event Captain, added: “What started out as a very rainy day ended up a very enjoyable and fun day out. Everyone chipped in with their contribution and it was good to see the team pulling together. I was particularly pleased how the team supported the remaining members when it reached the heat stages. One of the reasons events such are this are so successful and well attended is because it provides an opportunity for employees to work together in a way you wouldn’t have thought possible, such as running round a park pulling a cannon!  Winning on the day was an additional bonus, especially if you see the competition from the like of Halliburton and GE Capital!”

The results from the Shell Highland Games Challenge mean that Baker Hughes and PwC have held their positions at the top of their leagues but with a number of events still to take place the rankings could alter at any time.
