Sparrows to present technical paper at North Sea Crane & Lifting Conference

Sparrows are part sponsors of the 15th North Sea Offshore Crane & Lifting Conference, taking place at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre between 27th-29th April.

Alan Greig, Vice President of Projects & Technology will present a paper on ‘Learnings from Offshore Pedestal Crane Incidents and Accidents’, which aims to share experiences and lessons learned with the wider crane community.  As a specialist lifting services company with over 35 years of UKCS offshore pedestal crane operations, Sparrows have had unparalleled exposure to crane and lifting related incidents.

Key points of the presentation include:

• A review of incident data with examples highlighting root causes both those attributable to equipment failure and those associated with human error
• The effectiveness of crane incident reporting and investigation
• The effectiveness of crane incident follow-up and lateral implementation of remedial measures
• A review of existing lifting control measures, maintenance and inspection systems and procedures being used on typical offshore installations
• Examples of improvements which have a positive effect in decreasing the number of incidents in the field of offshore pedestal cranes
