Sparrows Putts Charity First

02/08/2009

Playing golf has never been quite so rewarding. As with most celebrity golfers, golf and charitability really do go hand in hand. A day of competitiveness, skill and even sunshine were enjoyed at the Sparrows International Annual Golf Event held at Inchmarlo Golf Club on the 28th of May 2009.

With the drive to show off a ‘perfect’ swing and a halfway barbeque to fuel the spirits, 12 teams of Sparrows customers played their way around the challenging course before finishing off with a relaxing dinner and the opportunity to compare the ‘hole in one’ that almost was. Overall winner, Mike Robertson from BP together with runners up John Atkinson from Diamond Offshore and John Atkinson from Lundin were all presented with malt whisky and Golf Shop gift vouchers by Sparrows’ Sales Manager Gordon McCombie.

As winner, Mike Roberston was also asked to choose a local charity who would benefit from the donation of money collected from the players on the day. Mike decided he would like the money to go the Aberdeen branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society which through such donations provide people with information and support in a therapeutic and social environment. The centre which has annual running costs of over £90,000 was delighted to be presented with a cheque of £1,000 by Gordon McCombie.

Lorna Allan from the charity commented, “The money donated will be used to buy new fire exits and wheel chair ramps for the centre which are extremely important in the upkeep of the centre, we would like to thank Sparrows for this kind donation.”
