Summary of Offshore Crane Operator Competence
25/01/2010This programme is acknowledged worldwide as the benchmark in quality for training delivery and competence verification.
It is designed and presented giving due consideration to the recommendations contained in S.I. 2307 Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, HSE Training Guidance Note No.5 “Selection & Training of Offshore Crane Drivers” and British Standard 7121 Part 11 “Safe Use of Cranes Offshore.” The content incorporates requirements associated with the operation of cranes on platforms, semi-submersibles and FPSOs.
There are differing requirements for operators on board DSVs, please refer to separate specific procedure.
The recognised pattern of progression through three stages of crane operator training, with assessment on completion, is detailed below starting from novice through to experienced crane operator. Novice operators cannot complete the programme in one continuous phase - practical experience, under supervision, is required between each stage of training. It is accepted that individuals with verifiable evidence of previous experience will enter at an advanced stage.
