Banksman & Slinging Operations Training Course

The Industry Standard for Banksman & Slinging Operations has been restructured to offer a competence based approach open to non-experienced personnel who wish to enter the industry.

At Sparrows Offshore Training Centre we deliver the three day Banksman and Slinging Operations training course which covers Stage 1 of the Competence Wheel shown below. Successful completion leads to the award of certification enabling delegates to proceed to the workplace for further training and development.

Over three days you will receive full training and explanations, giving you an excellent opportunity to demonstrate competence skills in the following areas:

Knowledge of: Relevant legislation and personal responsibilities Safe systems of work – permits, procedures etc Risk assessment, lifting plans and controls Slinging principles and terminology

Awareness of: Crane operating principles and dynamic factors Conflicting activities and environmental factors Manual Handling

Practical Demonstration of: Safe use of equipment Equipment pre and post use inspection Equipment identification and selection Hand signals and use of radios Weight identification and estimation Lifting, placing and disconnecting loads Role of designated banksman

Our Training Centre is fully equipped with an offshore pedestal crane, FROG Personnel Carrier, containers, bulk hoses, sleeper walls for blind lifting and all necessary work equipment found at the workplace.

NOTE As a result of our extensive facilities, we are the only training centre that can provide Workplace Assessment (Stage 3) onshore as our facility has been deemed a “real working environment” by OPITO and SQA. This is of significant advantage to the client in alleviating the pressures of organising helicopter seats and bed space for an Assessor to travel offshore. In September 08 we were also the first training provider to be accredited for Stage 3 competence assessment at the workplace allowing clients to decide which route is more suitable for their personnel.
